Harvest Cooler
Recipes come from the strangest of places. In this case, The Master Seamstress found this one in a page-a-day John Deere calendar. The colour is stunning and festive. Here’s how it goes:
1 lime Jell-O
1 cup boiling water
4 cups pineapple juice
3/4 cup lemon juice
5 cups ice water
Dissolve the Jell-O in the boiling water, add the rest of the ingredients, stir and chill. Makes about 11 cups.
This drink is, admittedly, a little thick. Increasing the pineapple and/or lemon juice would probably cut down on that a little. Master Seamstress also used flavoured water instead of regular ice water.
I think this would make a great spring party of baby shower drink. It would serve as a great non-alcoholic alternative at holiday parties. I’d like to try experimenting with different Jell-O flavours, the orange pineapple instead. Or lightening the end result up by using a carbonated beverage instead of some of the ice water. This drink mixed up in a punch bowl at Hallowe’en, would make a great ghoulish punch. Perhaps with some gummy body parts floating in it? How cool would that be?
How about you? What kind of variations can you envision for this drink?
