Energizer Free Their Imagination

Summer is here!  The kids are home!  Now what?

In our house, we are going to endeavour to keep little hands and minds occupied by working through some school books for about an hour each morning.  So, what to do with the remaining umpteen LONG hours in the day?

Our subdivision is still under construction, and lucky us, we are still surrounded by empty lots on two of our three sides, as well as one across the street.  While this does give my children lots of room to let their imaginations run wild amongst the construction garbage, something about that just doesn’t seem quite right.

Our household’s solution?  Colourfully labelled boxes for each child.  Inside each box, their school workbook for the summer, colouring utensils, erasers, scissors, stickers, Highlights/High Five magazines, Lego magazines, and other inspiring pieces for the kids to get into.  The boxes are all wrapped in different wrapping papers, with each child’s name clearly printed on top.  This will also give me a place to store almost finished projects and artwork.

Lots of options

As new additions are found for the boxes, they can be easily added.  For instance, E1 has a new book that gives him specific papers and instructions to make ONE HUNDRED PAPER AIRPLANES.  Clearly, this is an in the box-type thing. Paints?  Maybe not so much in our house, but not everyone’s house is filled with budding Picasso’s who feel painted walls make an excellent artistic surface.
